ABOUT DISTRICT COURT
Narmadapuram was a civil district with the post of district judge in the Central Provinces from the year 1904 and later, the headquarters of the Nerbudda civil division. During this time it also had the courts of the sub-judge, extra sub-judge and munsif. A tehsildar with judicial powers over petty matters also worked in the tehsils at Sohagpur, Harda and Seoni (Seoni Malwa). In 1931, as the headquarters, it exercised jurisdiction over Harda, Betul and Narsinghpur as well. Other than the court of the district and sessions judge, it had courts of the subordinate judge of the First and Second Class. Sohagpur also had the court of the subordinate judge of the Second Class. The subordinate judges of the First Class were later styled as additional judges of the district courts
After Independence, Narmadapuram (Old named Hoshangabad) continued to be a civil district headquarters. On the reorganization of civil districts in 1959, the district and sessions judge sitting at Narmadapuram had additional jurisdiction over the district and sessions judge of Betul and Narsinghpur.
